The King of Kings Emperor Haile Selassie I speaks on the Advice to Students
The King of kings Emperor Haile Selassie I speaks on the Advice to Students. Haile Selassie strongly believed in the education of the youths. Therefore He was never shy in giving any advice unto students. For they are the future of tomorrow.
“Education intensifies natural gifts and ability. but mere education, unless founded on a historical and cultural framework, will bear no fruits.” Haile Selassie I
As the gospel tells us “a house built upon strong foundations can never be overthrown by storms.” Similarly, when people are built up with minds well formed by education and knowledge,
no trial of whatever kind can conquer them. The knowledge you have acquired so far is no end in itself but a reminder for the further responsibilities that await you.
Haile Selassie I speech on Advice to Students
“A man who is proud in spirit will always have confidence in himself and his conscience will not reprimand him.”
A man led by the spirit and not the flesh will find confidence in himself knowing his mind is free from the shackles of this world. Therefore, let not your minds be shackled by the weight of expectations of this world.
Know that you and you alone hold the power to be free and confident. Therefore let not your spirit shamed but proud in who you are. Find who you are and where you belong.
Never try to live up to others expectations and follow their way. Learn to follow you and lead yourself to confidence. The same confidence the Almighty gave unto you to be free.
“Avoid having a bad reputation and be eager and energetic in your studies, be loyal to your country and obedient to your teachers, eschew lies and follow truth, respect good and be heirs of good work.”
A bad reputation is hard to recover from, therefore avoid having doing wrong to anyone always. It is important that people have trust in you and confidence. Like the boy who cried wolf, due to his constant calling and no truth behind it,
when the time came for him to really need to call for help, none came! For he had developed a bad reputation for being a liar.
Therefore avoid these things, be energetic and eager in your studies to learn and develop. Always yearn for knowledge and wisdom and never stop seeking it.
Be obedient and do that which is good, and goodness will follow all the days of your life. Respect good and be heirs of good work, don’t get caught in the wrong for this will only tear us down.
Therefore let us rise up and do that which is right and good, follow the goodness of your heart always.
“There are definitely many things which you can learn from the people. If you are guided by this principle, you will be surprised how pleasant life can be.”
If we take the time to observe and watch diligently, there is much to learn from others. Therefore, if we can use this humbling method, you will be amazed at just how beautiful life can be.
What we learn from observation can teach us the very ways of our brothers and sisters. Therefore allowing us to be tolerant of the person having observed them closely knowing what may offend them.
Learning who others are and what they offer can also help us as individuals to grow for the better, this can help us to have a more pleasant a joyous life.
Therefore let us be keen to observe and to learn from all those around us, in every little thing, never stop learning from people. If you are open-minded and ready to learn,
there are many things which you can learn not only from books and instructors but from the very [experience] of life….itself
“Let your work always be such that you can take pride in it, and if you do so, your country will have reason to be proud of you.”
Any work you do for yourself, let it be fulfilling and enough for yourself first. For if we work in such a way that we can be proud of, no doubt will it affect and benefit those around you positively as well.
What you leave behind will either help or destroy those after you. Therefore it is imperative that will toil in such a way that it reflects the best of us always.
There are no shortcuts to uplifting oneself, one must work step by step. Let us work with our maximum efforts in all that we do to leave behind a worthy legacy for those to come.
“Knowledge is power. If it is not applied properly to create, let there be no doubts, it will destroy.
Knowledge is power, therefore what you do with it can either be beneficial or detrimental. If we do not use our knowledge for the good of mankind, surely we will be doomed to destroy it.
Let us therefore, cultivate our knowledge in the righteousness of the Most High and use it for the welfare of our brothers and sisters.
No doubt, if we do not guard our minds from the evils of this world, our knowledge will be used to destroy us. Let us therefore stand together in unity and righteousness to preserve and carry on life and not to destroy it.
